COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGIST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I’ve listed some of my most common FAQ’s below about my counselling services and how I work. If you have a question I haven’t answered, please get in touch. I’m happy to help.

Questions and answers to help you overcome any doubts you may have about my counselling psychologist services.

What can I expect at my first appointment?

At your first appointment, you will meet with me to discuss your reasons for seeking help. You may be asked questions about your beliefs, expectations, and experiences. This will help me to understand your current situation and outlook.

How long are Counselling sessions with You?

Sessions are approximately 50 minutes long.

How is therapy differ from talking to my friends?

Talking with friends is a great way to get support, but it’s not the same as talking to a psychologist. Psychologists are professionals with specialized training in helping people who are encountering difficulties in their lives. They can also provide an “outside”, objective perspective that is different than what your friends can provide.

What issues or concerns can counselling help with?

Counselling can assist with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, family conflicts, stress management, and personal growth.

Do you offer online counselling sessions?

Yes, I offer both in-person and online counselling sessions to accommodate your preferences and needs.

What is your cancellation policy?

I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you need to reschedule or cancel, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid a cancellation fee.

How many treatment sessions will be needed?

Each person has a different journey through therapy and so, therefore, it can be difficult to answer this question with precision. However, I work in a Solution-Focused Therapeutic approach which lends itself to shorter amounts of treatment sessions than most other approaches. I hope to move you towards achieving some if not all of your goals in the most time-efficient manner, whilst ensuring the process doesn’t feel rushed or forced.

Is the information discussed confidential?

All information that you disclose in your session with a psychologist is confidential.

There are two exceptions to this rule. The first exception is if you are at risk of harming yourself or someone else and the second exception is in relation to court orders.

What types of clients do you work with?

I work with individuals, couples, and families, helping them navigate various life challenges and mental health issues.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

Counselling is beneficial for anyone seeking support, personal growth, or a safe space to discuss concerns. If you’re considering it, we can discuss your specific needs during an initial consultation.

How can I schedule an appointment?

You can schedule an appointment by contacting me via phone or email. I’ll respond promptly to arrange a suitable time.

Can I bring my partner or family to a session?

Yes, I offer couples and family counselling. You can schedule sessions for yourself, with your partner, or with other family members as needed.
