Online Counselling
Online counselling via Zoom, Whatsapp, or Phone is seen by many to be a helpful alternative to traditional face-to-face counselling because of its less confronting approach and convenience. For those clients that have experienced trauma in their lives, online counselling can help you feel safe and empowered in an environment you are already comfortable in. You are in complete control.
The Basics of Online Therapy Explained
Online sessions should be treated with the same importance as face-to-face sessions. We will still set aside the same amount of time (usually 50-55 minutes) and respect the need for privacy and confidentiality we would normally apply. Most medical aids support online therapy the way they would face-to-face therapy. I will ensure the privacy of the space I conduct online sessions in, and it is important you do too.
ONLINE COUNSELLING THINGS TO THINK ABOUT
- Online Counselling or Therapy is proven as an effective alternative to face-to-face counselling. Whilst most people find it effective, it may not be for everyone. I offer face-to-face counselling from my office in Johannesburg, so we can always move from online counselling to face-to-face if you feel it would suit your needs better.
- There are some important things to consider in preparation for an online counselling process. Considering the privacy of your physical space as well as the technical aspects of online counselling and what equipment and connectivity you expect to have are some of the more important considerations.
- If you would like a better understanding of the benefits of online counselling and some recommendations for getting the most out of the process, have a look at this article (link to blog article) which explains these points in more detail. Feel free to let me know if you still wish to find out more about this option.
Finding the right online therapy services in a big city like Johannesburg can seem daunting as there are many practitioners to choose from. All psychologists are trained to assist with a fairly wide array of challenges faced by people, however choosing one and reaching out to make contact can feel like a leap of faith. Hopefully my website has provided some useful information and helped remove some of the anxiety one can feel when contacting a Psychologist. If you would like to book a session or even just want to find out a bit more about how things work, feel free to contact me directly.
